Conversation of Chairs

Conversation of Chairs is an upcycled multi-level nine panel canvas that I collaged with newsprint and found objects overlayed with resin and a photographic series of mine with the same title. I took this series in 2011 on the back side of the Vatican where there were several arrangements of chairs, still very full of conversation and the energy of their previous inhabitants. I then separated this original series of five photographs to fit across the nine panels, and carved into various aspects of their shape and chosen words from the redacted magazine headlines.
“A quiet study in solitude and presence, this collage weaves together a grid of weathered chair images—each one caught in a moment of stillness. Muted tones and layered textures give the piece a timeworn, almost cinematic quality, as if each square holds a memory waiting to be revisited. Subtle text fragments and distressed surfaces add depth and narrative, inviting the viewer to piece together their own story. Both contemplative and visually striking, it transforms everyday objects into a poetic exploration of space, absence, and human trace.”
