This piece is part of a deconstructive abstract technique I’ve recently honed. I build a piece up till I know it’s gone too far and then I remove various layers to find the painting’s true voice.
As I chose what to reveal / keep concealed it began to look like an antique game board or Indian tapestry, and the colorscape immediately reminded me of Diwali… the Hindu festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of good over evil.
The right hand corner features two valve gasket covers with gold leaf. This piece comes framed in an earthy reddish maple.
