Sunset (St)Ripped

“Change must be afoot as my boot soles start to peel, or is it my soul?
I’ve returned home, a foreigner. Yet things are still familiar here; people, smells, bits of conversation in a language I no longer understand.
I keep these memories, like jewels, cleverly woven into the lapel of an old coat I adorn…not in the sleek and refined fashion of my mother, but with a sort of blurred elegance.
I walk these patterned streets, bright and alive. My newly rebellious mind skips between lights and thoughts as it plots our next steps.
It’s time to move on as I have become sunset stripped…but better for it.” - Courtney Trowman
This piece is multi-layered ( as is most of my work) in that there is a previously completed piece underneath this “makeover".” I incorporated broken bits of a fluorescent light cover, sketchbook scraps, wooden letters (spelling HERE) and Dremel carvings to give this piece its organized chaos and movement.
I was inspired to give the previous piece a glow-up when a call for a “Poetic” show came up, and I reconfigured it based on my poem below.
